Maria Petrochenkova, CSCP
Supply Chain Development Manager
Cologne, Germany

“I learned a lot about purchasing and logistics in the US. The conditions and the point of view are quite different than in Europe, it was really interesting to learn!”

Why did you decide to pursue the APICS CSCP certification?

I wanted to take the next step in my career. Eventually, it could be interesting to work for an American company and my European diploma and certificates would not be enough to get a good position.

How did you prepare for the APICS CSCP exam?

I learned by myself. The books were helpful, but not enough to pass the exam. It is important to work with the online learning system and become familiar with it. Also, the advice from the community was helpful.

What was your biggest takeaway from APICS CSCP training?

The management understanding that supply chain is a strategic and important part of a corporation. Also, the new ways of thinking about the collaboration with partners—like suppliers and pre-suppliers—and how to design a supply chain that is full of communication and that is benefitting all parties.

How has an APICS certification impacted your career or organization?

My new job is about strategy and digital transformation for a European trading group. I could talk to the management board on the equal level while using the same language.

Have you implemented a supply chain or logistics initiative at your organization as a result of your APICS certification training?

Yes, we have changed the supply chain organization and coupled strategic buyers with product managers to drive innovation.

What are other benefits of APICS certification?

I learned a lot about purchasing and logistics in the US. The conditions and the point of view are quite different than in Europe, it was really interesting to learn!
