CPIM Reconfiguration Timetable

APICS Senior Director, Professional Development

Wednesday February 15, 2017

Many CPIM candidates and potential candidates have been asking us about the time table for the new reconfigured CPIM program.  When will the new Learning System and exams be available? when will the old courses and exams no longer be available? I’m about to start, how will this affect me; should I start now or wait? And, if I wait, how long will it take before I can earn the CPIM? I’m part way through the program, how will this affect me; will I have time to finish what I started? Will there be any overlap between the old exams and the new ones?

Lisa Sallstrom, our Senior Director of Certification put together a short recorded presentation that will walk you through how, and when, the transition will happen.  It is under 9 minutes long and I know it will answer most of your questions in regard to availability and timing.

Moustafa - in the presentation we say the new Learning Systems will be out late August/early September;  the new exams will be available 1/8/2018.  There are no changes to the topics covered, but the new Learning Systems and exams will be enhanced, Anyone who has passed the Basics exam in the last 10 years, can take the new Part 2 exam and become CPIM.  Candidates who have passed other exams, but still don't have their CPIM are encouraged to finish the other exams before 12/31/2018;  this gives them about 21 months!

    - I believe we will sell re-take exams available to candidates who need them after we officially stop selling the exams, however, once 12/31/2018 comes, the exams will no longer be available. They will be removed from the PearsonVue (or exam partner) system.  Only the new exams will be available after that.

Thank you for providing us with the timeline. One question I have is regarding retaking the exam after the cutoff has passed for the sale of the individual modules. For example let's say I am on SMR and plan to take it after the 7/1/18 cutoff, however I do not pass it on the first try. Will I still be able to purchase just the SMR exams until 12/31/18 or will I have to move on to the new format?

When the current courses & exams will be changed? What are the new modifications? Are the last certificates specially BSCM will be valid or expired?

    Thanks in advance
