APICS Celebrates 100,000th CPIM Milestone and 40th Anniversary
The APICS CPIM designation is recognized as the worldwide standard of excellence
in supply chain and operations management

ORLANDO (September 30, 2013) – The APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) designation has been earned by 100,000 industry professionals. This landmark underscores the prestige of the program and the impact it has had on global business and individual careers. Concurrently, APICS is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the APICS CPIM program this year.

Established in 1973, the APICS CPIM professional designation demonstrates mastery of essential terminology, concepts, and strategies related to supply chain and operations management. It also establishes a common language that paves the way for greater consistency, collaboration and understanding among the global supply chain community.

Earning the APICS CPIM is a rigorous process requiring applicants to pass a series of five examinations. Those holding the designation work in fields including supply chain management, materials management, operations, procurement and purchasing. The high value of the CPIM designation to employers is indicated by the salary differential. According to the APICS Operations Management Outlook survey, CPIM designees receive up to 14% more in annual compensation than their colleagues without certification. In addition, many companies require or prefer the CPIM credential when hiring.

APICS surveyed a sample of CPIM designees in the fall of 2013 to gauge their assessment of the program. Eighty-nine percent of respondents say they plan to maintain their designation by earning professional development points, and 89 percent say they would recommend earning the APICS CPIM designation to peers. The majority of respondents say the CPIM designation has given them enhanced knowledge and understanding, increased confidence and an edge over the competition when employers make hiring decisions.

“We celebrate this important milestone with everyone around the world who has demonstrated a commitment to their profession through the CPIM program,” said APICS Chief Executive Officer Abe Eshkenazi, CSCP, CPA, CAE. “The stature the CPIM designation has achieved over the last 40 years is remarkable. Employers understand that the CPIM designation is a mark of professional excellence.”

The milestone 100,000th CPIM was achieved just days before the APICS 2013 annual conference in Orlando, where the announcement was made.
