In memoriam
Former APICS president and professor at the Carlson School of Management Thomas R. Hoffman, PhD, CFPIM, CIRM, passed away June 13, 2013. He was 79 years old.
Hoffman was a tireless promoter of supply chain and operations management. He received his PhD in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin and was a practiced consultant in addition to his professorial roles. He published more than 50 articles in professional journals and industry magazines and authored and coauthored several textbooks.

During his time at APICS, Hoffman volunteered as a reviewer of the Production & Inventory Management Journal, served as a board member and president of the APICS Twin Cities chapter, and was a chair of the Curricula and Certification Committee. He became president of the APICS Board of Directors in 1998.

“Tom was a wonderful friend and mentor to me since I joined the APICS Board of Directors 17 years ago,” says Joe Shedlawski, CPIM, a former president of APICS, who currently serves on the board of the APICS Northern New Jersey chapter. “He was a source of inspiration, wisdom, and encouragement for me and a major influence in the development of my APICS volunteer career.”

The editors of APICS magazine extend their condolences to the family and friends of Thomas Hoffman.
