APICS offers in-depth training on a variety of operations management subjects. These courses are designed to build the skills of employees and improve the operations of any enterprise.

Participant Profile
These courses are appropriate for professionals interested in building skills in a specific topic area or who would like to refresh their knowledge of a subject and employers who seek to improve performance in a particular area of operations management throughout the enterprise. APICS offers in-depth training on subjects such as cycle counting, forecasting, lean and agile manufacturing, MRP II/ERP, product data management, purchasing and materials management, and vendor-managed inventory.

Course Descriptions

Cycle Counting
This course outlines the benefits inventory accuracy offers to improve customer service and profitability. Participants will learn how to prepare for and implement a successful cycle-counting process and how to use control groups to expedite the improvement process, properly reconcile inventory records, report results, and use cycle counting to uncover areas of improvement.

One-day course

Forecasting
This course is oriented toward assisting companies in becoming more creative in supporting ever-changing demand through more accurate sales forecasting techniques and methods. Improved communications and greater flexibility in reacting to customer demands will be discussed.

Two-day course

Introduction to Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP)
This course will help determine if an organization is ready for an ERP implementation, examine the benefits of implementing an ERP system, and build a compelling business case in support of an ERP implementation. Introduction to ERP explores the process integration of businesswide functions (demand management, product design, and delivery) required and supported by an ERP implementation.

Just-in-Time: Lean Operating Principles and Techniques
This course is appropriate for professionals who already have experience in production and inventory management. The JIT course enables manufacturing, service, and retail organizations to eliminate waste, reduce lead times, and utilize resources more efficiently.

Lean and Agile Manufacturing
This course uses a live factory model, complete with tools, fixtures, materials, and shop floor paperwork transactions, to contrast the operating styles of a typical mass production plant to a lean production plant. Teams work using material requirements planning (MRP) to plan, manufacture, assemble, and ship two products using three common manufacturing processes.

One-day course

MRP II/ERP
This course helps participants understand and define manufacturing resource planning and enterprise resources planning concepts. An overview for implementing or updating a business system will be presented. Participants will learn successful methods for integrating all business functions and coordinating those functions to obtain the full benefit from the software.

One-, two-, or three-day course

Product Data Management
This course shows how to effectively construct and use bills of material (BOMs) and routings. It covers which bills are appropriate for a given situation and how they should be used. The host company’s BOMs and routings will be analyzed and critiqued. This course addresses the main methods needed in agile and lean manufacturing structures to achieve improved efficiency.

Purchasing and Materials Management
This course focuses on how to succeed in the world of integrated organizations. Examine the workings of an organization; analyze material and process flows; enhance value added procedures; and eliminate waste, redundancy, and bureaucracy to streamline operations.

Two-day course

Vendor-Managed Inventory
This course will cover inventory management control techniques, aggregate inventory, return on investment, inventory turns, seasonal demands, activity-based cost accounting classifications, and cycle counting. Case examples of how companies support changing customer demand will be presented.
