The conference helped me learn industry related concepts, which are not a part of course work. Networking and meeting with high profile professionals was a major benefit. Also, Burt Rutan, the innovator in aerospace, and Scott Adams, the Dilbert cartoonist, gave special time to the scholars and gave us some tips on working in organization and innovations to be carried out.

The APICS Educational and Research (E&R) Foundation offers student members of an APICS student chapter the opportunity to experience the APICS International Conference & Expo by attending educational sessions, networking events, visiting the exposition, and assisting the APICS staff all with the guidance of scholar mentors and coordinators.
Students have the opportunity to explore careers in the operations management field first-hand through contact with professionals in their field.

Benefits
Aside from the opportunity to experience the conference and network with active, operations management professionals, scholars receive the following benefits:
- Complimentary conference registration
- Reserved seating at general sessions
- Opportunities to meet general and featured session speakers (if applicable)
- Complimentary hotel room for 5 nights (double occupancy with another scholar)
- $200 stipend (checks will be given at the conclusion of the conference)
Requirements
To become a scholar, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Graduate or undergraduate APICS student member
- Must be enrolled full time during the Spring 2008 semester (comparable to 12 credits/semester)
- Available to attend the entire conference
- Age 18 by September 21, 2008
- Apply by the deadline of March 31, 2008.
Responsibilities
In addition to attending sessions, networking events, and the exposition, scholars are involved by assisting the APICS staff.
- Prepare rooms for presentations
- Seat attendees at sessions and events, and distribute and collect speaker evaluation forms
- Provide hospitality to speakers and attendees
- Provide session room and special event counts
- Assist APICS staff in other areas of the conference: Community Center, Registration, Exhibit Hall
