Train > Certify > Employ
Gaylord Resort and Conference Center
Fort Worth, Texas
September 1, 2010
This summit will be a milestone in the new national movement behind using industry-recognized, nationally portable certifications as the solution to the nation’s pressing need for a higher skilled, front-line industrial workforce. This will be the first, high-level national conference on this topic, which is important to understand as the link between federal training funds and industry-recognized credentials increases.
Supported by the Texas Workforce Commission and hosted by Workforce Solutions North Central Texas, the summit will feature the first-ever national certification program for the core technical competencies of front-line logistics and manufacturing production workers: the Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) and Certified Production Technician (CPT) certifications offered by the nationwide Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC).
APICS Chief Executive Officer, Abe Eshkenazi, CSCP, CPA, CAE, will be informing attendees about higher-level APICS certifications, the APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and the APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP).
Jane Oates, Assistant Secretary of Labor, Employment and Training, US Department of Labor, will be the luncheon speaker.
Other plenary speakers will include industry leaders assembled by the Hillwood Alliance Global Logistics Hub (a Perot company); career-tech education community leaders including Ron Painter (NAWB), Kim Green (NASDCTEc), Jan Bray (ACTE); Texas state government leaders; and Leo Reddy, CEO, MSSC. Breakouts will discuss practical steps for using national certification system tools in: Workforce Boards, Industry; and Career Pathway Planning.
In addition, the conference will go beyond U.S. borders to include strategies for implementing certifications along the vital trade arteries between Mexico, Texas the Central States and Canada. Plenary and breakout discussions of this topic will be led by the North American Super Corridor Coalition (NASCO), a powerful government-industry organization committed to economic and workforce development along this entire corridor.
Note: NASCO support will be especially important to APICS members in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Carolina, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana.
