APICS’ Irvin Varkonyi to Chair the 2006 Eye for Transport’s 5th North American Cargo Security Forum

Alexandria, VA (September 6, 2006) APICS The Association for Operations Management announced today that APICS Instructor and Program Manager, Irvin Varkonyi has been appointed Chairman of the Eye for Transport’s 5 th North American Cargo Security Forum. The forum, which is North America's most established event focusing on the latest trends in cargo security, from the perspective of those controlling the entire supply chain will be held September 6-7 at the Hilton Hotel Embassy Row in Washington, D.C.

This annual event focuses on comprehensive long-term strategies and best practices for cargo security professionals and offers an interactive learning opportunity to more than 200 attendees. Participants are encouraged to attend a number of networking events and presentations from a variety of industry experts who will address global cargo security concerns.

As chairman, Varkonyi’s responsibilities include offering welcoming remarks, moderating question and answer sessions and panel discussions and delivering closing remarks. He will also host an interactive workshop, “Human Capital and Cargo Security—Don't Forget the People,” a session that offers managers tips on how to best motivate their employees to understand and support new security issues and ensure that investments are carried through efficiently and effectively.

Varkonyi is an Instructor and Program Manager at APICS as well as President of Supply Chain Operations Preparedness Education, LLC (SCOPE), which provides content and research in supply chain security for the private and public sector. He is the Director of Education for the Trade Security Institute, a private consortium of homeland security experts that offers training and consulting in collaborative supply chain and transportation security. Mr. Varkonyi is also an Adjunct Professor in Transportation Policy, Operations and Logistics at George Mason University.
