Sarah C. Varner Joins APICS as Deputy Executive Director
Alexandria, VA (September 6, 2006) APICS The Association for Operations Management announced today that Sarah C. Varner, CAE, joined the association as Deputy Executive Director on September 5, 2006. In her new role, Varner will provide APICS with business development leadership and manage the implementation and execution of the organization’s strategic priorities.
“Sarah’s extensive leadership experience and skills in association management will help further APICS’ mission to advance the operations management profession,” said Abe Eshkenazi, Executive Director and COO of APICS. “We are delighted to welcome her to the APICS team.”
Varner has nearly two decades of experience in business management and administration. Prior to joining APICS, Varner was the Chief Strategy Officer for the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). In this role, she advised the ASAE President, CEO and Board of Directors regarding strategic initiatives and oversaw their implementation. Varner also played a key role in securing and implementing ASAE’s historic merger with the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives in June 2004. As the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the ASAE Foundation, Varner developed the Foundation’s strategic plan and identified its organizational priorities.
She previously served as Senior Vice President of the Association Division for Changing Our World where she designed feasibility studies and fundraising strategies for client associations. She also served as the first Executive Director of the Institute of Business Travel Management where she raised $3 million in gifts and pledges to launch the new foundation. Varner holds an MBA with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Maryland, College Park.
