APICS The Association for Operations Management
Celebrates 50 Years of Excellence and Leadership

Alexandria, VA (July 2, 2007) APICS the Association for Operations Management announced today that in recognition of its 50th anniversary the association celebrates the thousands of supply chain and operations professionals who have propelled supply chain and operations management from the industrial era to the information age. As the industry resource for education and training, APICS provides internationally recognized certifications, comprehensive resources, and a worldwide network of accomplished industry leaders.

APICS, which was founded in March 1957 in Cleveland, OH, by a small group of production control professionals, is now composed of more than 42,000 individuals from 20,000 companies worldwide-across all segments of manufacturing, service, retail, and wholesale industries.

“The 20 men responsible for founding APICS in the 1950s could not possibly have imagined what the future of the industry would be like today,” said Abe Eshkenazi, APICS executive director and COO. “From the development of the microchip, to the invention of cell phones and the Internet, to revolutionary RFID technology, APICS is proud of its members and the role they have played in improving the efficiency of today’s global marketplace.”

APICS fuels the global economy by providing the education and training operations managers need to achieve faster, more efficient and more cost effective supply chains. Through regular expansion and refinement, the APICS body of knowledge offers the most expert, current, and relevant education to the growing operations management community. Obtaining an APICS certification shows a commitment to the profession that leads to a sense of accomplishment, demonstrates value to the employer, enhances earning potential, and provides a path to career advancement.

APICS continues to set the standard for developing advanced training and education that increases knowledge of global supply chain issues and solutions. The same mission that made APICS the proven leader in providing operations management training and education 50 years ago still applies today. APICS chapters across the country and around the globe are planning events to celebrate the 50th anniversary.
