APICS Introduces New Industry Certification
Certified Supply Chain Professional
Alexandria, VA (October 21, 2005) APICS The Association for Operations Management launched the first comprehensive educational program designed for operations and supply chain management professionals at the 2005 APICS International Conference and Exposition in Kansas City, Missouri. APICS introduced the Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), a new industry certification created to meet the rapidly changing educational needs in the growing field of supply chain management.
“The APICS CSCP designation will equip today’s professionals with the credentials to improve their company’s competitive success and their own professional advancement,” said Thomas J. Krupka, CFPIM, Jonah, APICS president. “The new CSCP designation reflects the expanding role supply chain management plays in today’s increasingly competitive global marketplace.”
The CSCP program takes a broad view of the field, extending beyond internal operations to encompass all the steps throughout the supply chain—from the supplier, through the company, to the end consumer—and provides you with the knowledge to effectively manage the integration of these activities to maximize a company’s value chain.
To assist candidates to prepare for the CSCP exam, APICS partnered with the Holmes Corporation, specialists in developing and distributing educational products for association certification programs, to develop the CSCP Learning System. The learning system is a comprehensive course based on the CSCP body of knowledge and is organized into four learning modules: Supply Chain Management Fundamentals; Building Competitive Operations, Planning, and Logistics; Managing Customer and Supplier Relationships; and Using Information Technology to Enable Supply Chain Management.
The APICS CSCP Learning System combines print materials with interactive online tools to deliver a customized experience. The course will be offered in three learning options—self-directed, instructor-led, or corporate group. APICS is currently offering the self-directed materials. Instructor-led courses will be offered through the APICS network of local chapters, colleges and universities, and corporations beginning in the second quarter of 2006.
To be eligible for the CSCP exam, a candidate must have a bachelor’s degree plus two years of related business experience, or have a CPIM, CFPIM, CIRM, or C.P.M. designation plus two years of related business experience, or have five years of related business experience. APICS will begin accepting candidates for the CSCP examination in March 2006.
