APICS Presents Corporate Awards of Excellence to
Engenio, Global eProcure, and Owens Corning/Metreo

Kansas City, MO (October 18, 2005) APICS The Association for Operations Management of Alexandria, Virginia, acknowledged the recipients of the APICS Corporate Awards of Excellence today in three categories—education, innovation, and technology partnership.

Engenio Information Technologies, Inc., of Wichita, Kansas, was the recipient of the Education Award of Excellence; Global eProcure of Clark, New Jersey, was the recipient of the Innovation Award of Excellence; and Owens Corning of Toledo, Ohio, with Metreo, Inc., of Palo Alto, California, were the recipients of the Technology Partnership Award of Excellence. Company representatives received the awards during the 2005 APICS International Conference and Exposition here this week.

Engenio Wichita Operations Training Department partners with Southwestern College to provide APICS’ Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and Certified in Integrated Resource Management (CIRM) courses both on campus and at the company site. Engenio provides funds for instructors, resource materials, and the training facility. The company matches time off for classes with use of employee’s own time. A successful student work program enables students, some of whom are affiliated with the Wichita State University APICS Student Chapter, to work 20 hours per week while in school and 40 hours per week when school is not in session. APICS education has contributed to improving on-time delivery at Engenio from 55 percent to a high of 93 percent, more accurate forecasts, lead times within contract ranges, and better overall performance against measurable metrics.

Global eProcure’s cost-reduction solution saved one company approximately 15 percent of its commodity costs, resulting in approximately $7 million in savings. Spending consolidation reduces the amount of unauthorized purchasing, encourages the use of corporate contracts, and concentrates purchasing among a core group of experts. The spend analysis solution helps companies develop key suppliers and reduce the number of redundant suppliers. The spending database’s detailed reports help companies bring efficiencies into their supply chains.

Owens Corning recognized its need for a better price management solution to enhance margins, deliver immediate results, and be compatible with its current technology system. By partnering with Metreo and using its pricing strategy tools, Owens Corning was able to analyze margins at every level of detail for every customer, product, and time period. Metreo’s system provided insight into the gap between list price and net margin, for every area from manufacturing and materials costs to distribution and warehousing, discounts, and rebates.

Roush and Yates Racing Engines, LLC of Mooresville, North Carolina, was the runner-up in the education category. GAINSystems, Inc., of Oak Brook, Illinois, was runner-up in the innovation category, and Husqvarna Turf Care of Beatrice, Nebraska, with Pelion Systems, Inc., of Boulder, Colorado, was the runner-up in the technology partnership category.
