2005 APICS International Conference and Exposition,
Annual Scholars Education Program Is Now Open for Submissions
Alexandria, VA (February 22, 2005) APICS The Association for Operations Management opens its Scholars Education Program application site (apics2005.heuristics.net/schlogin.asp) for submissions to the 2005 APICS International Conference and Exposition. APICS Educational and Research Foundation’s annual scholars program offers members three ways in which to participate: as a scholar, coordinator, or mentor.
Through the program, graduate and undergraduate members of APICS student chapters get the opportunity to attend and fully experience the APICS conference by attending educational sessions, networking events, and visiting the APICS exposition. Students are also involved in conference activities by assisting the APICS staff. The program fully funds the students’ travel and accommodations as well as provide other benefits such as complimentary conference registration, reserved seating at general sessions, opportunities to meet speakers, and more. Student scholar applications deadline is April 15, 2005. The program’s goal for this year is 50 students.
APICS members can participate by volunteering to be a scholar coordinator or mentor. Coordinators and mentors are extremely important to the program as their guidance and advice enables students to fully experience the conference. The goal for the 2005 conference is 50 mentors, 1 per student, and 5 coordinators, 1 per 10 students.
Coordinators serve to enhance the scholars’ experience by accompanying students to scheduled conference events including general sessions, the recognition celebration, personal and professional development sessions, and other social events scheduled during the conference. In return, coordinators receive many benefits including complimentary conference registration, reserved seating at general sessions, opportunities to meet speakers, and more. Coordinator applications deadline is March 15, 2005.
Mentors also enhance the scholars’ experience by meeting with them throughout the conference to share their experiences and advice on entering the field of operations management, how involvement in APICS can help advance their careers, leadership opportunities in APICS, and other information that will assist in cultivating their personal and professional development. Mentors receive reserved seating at general and featured speaker sessions. Mentor applications deadline is October 1, 2005.
In addition to volunteers, the Scholars Education Program needs financial support. Individuals, APICS chapters, and APICS regions can do so through tax-deductible contributions to the scholars program that funds the students’ travel and accommodations at the conference.
