San Diego Hosts 2004 APICS
International Conference and Exposition

Alexandria, VA (June 1, 2004) Supply chain and inventory management professionals will gather in San Diego, California, October 10-13, for the 2004 APICS International Conference and Exposition hosted by APICS—The Educational Society for Resource Management. General session, featured, and educational session speakers; networking opportunities; and leading suppliers of software systems, services, and information technology offer real-world solutions to industry challenges.

"Globally recognized speakers will present proven how-tos that are critical to supply chains, focusing on end-user needs, improved timeliness, cost containment, efficiency, and productivity," said Karen Alber, CFPIM, 2004 Conference Committee chair.

General session speakers include Dan Thurmon, president, Motivation Works, Inc.; Ian Percy, author of The 7 Secrets to Life of Meaning; and B. Joseph Pine II, author of Mass Customization: The New Frontier in Business Competition and coauthor of The Experience Economy: Work Is Theatre & Every Business a Stage. In addition, featured speakers are Joel Childs, vice president of marketing, FedEx Custom Critical; Major General Harold Mashburn Jr., Commanding General Marine Corps Logistics Command; Charles E. Whalen Jr., chief executive officer, Warren Featherbone Company; and Junki Yoshida, chief executive officer, Yoshida Foods International. More than 100 educational sessions will address enterprise quality management, lean strategies, project management, small business issues, emerging trends, personal and professional development, and supply chain management tools and essentials.

Other conference highlights include

  • "Competing through Networks," a three-session educational series that focuses on APICS' principles of supply chain management: velocity, variability, vocalize, visualize, and value
  • Executive Edge sessions, "True Value of Leadership: Ideas and Trends in Supply Chain Management," presented by industry leaders who have demonstrated their leadership through effective actions and decision making
  • Exposition featuring leaders in software, systems, services, and information technology for e-commerce solutions, supply chain management, MRP/ERP, automated electronic data collection, planning and scheduling, training, CRM, systems integration, RFID/wireless, logistics/distribution, and business consulting
  • APICS Applied Technology Simulation Center during the exposition where suppliers will demonstrate products and services on the show floor providing interactive, hands-on simulations
  • Plant tours at nine facilities: Callaway Golf, Dimension One Spas, dj Orthopedics, Elgar Electronics Corporation, Kyocera Wireless Corporation, NASSCO, Teamwork Athletic Apparel, Unisys Supply Chain Operations-Rancho Bernardo, and USS Midway.
