Organizations Compete through Supply Chain Networks—The How and Why at 2004 APICS International Conference and Exposition

Alexandria, VA (March 17, 2004) Understanding how to compete through networks is the theme of a three-session interactive educational event scheduled during the 2004 APICS International Conference and Exposition, October 10-13, in San Diego, California.

The sessions, focusing on the five principles that govern the success of a company's supply chain network, will enable conference attendees to understand "how to win by being faster, by doing things right, by communicating better, by measuring the right things, and by creating value throughout the company's network," said William T. Walker, CFPIM, CIRM, event developer. "Attendees take on the roles of customer, shareholder, employee, or supplier, learning how to collaborate and adapt to compete."

"Every organization competes through a network, and it important to understand the rules to win because doing business today has changed. Minimizing cost is a strategy to benefit one while maximizing throughput is a strategy that benefits all," said Walker.

"This real-world educational experience brings practitioners together to solve problems, coming up with solutions in a 'safe' environment free of risk. Insights gleaned from the sessions can be taken back on the job and implemented in the attendees' companies," said Walker.

In addition to the "Competing through Networks" sessions, APICS will present more than 100 educational sessions on tools and essentials for supply chain management, enterprise quality management, lean strategies, project management, small business issues, emerging trends, and personal and professional development.

The exposition will premier the APICS Applied Technology and Simulation Center, providing exhibitors with the opportunity to promote the value of their products and services to conference attendees through hands-on interactive simulations. The leaders in software, systems, services and information technology for e-commerce solutions, supply chain management, MRP/ERP, automated electronic data collection, planning and scheduling, training, CRM, systems integration, RFID/wireless, logistics/distribution, and business consulting will be showcased.
