APICS Presents Voluntary Service Awards
During 2002 APICS International
Conference and Exposition

Nashville, TN (October 28, 2002) Voluntary service awards were presented to three members of the APICS volunteer community in recognition of their contributions to APICS, its chapters and student chapters, and other professional and charitable organizations at the 2002 APICS International Conference and Exposition here today.

APICS—The Educational Society for Resource Management, a professional society headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, presented the Voluntary Service Award, the Student Voluntary Service Award, and the Student Chapter Mentor Award to individuals whose dedication to APICS and leadership within the APICS community are noteworthy.

James T. Chisholm, Glenshaw, Pennsylvania, is the recipient of the Voluntary Service Award for his more than 25 years of dedicated service to APICS at the chapter, region, and society levels. Following his presidency of the APICS Pittsburgh Chapter, he held several positions on the APICS Board of Directors, including international president. Chisholm continued to support APICS through service to the Educational and Research Foundation and on several board-appointed APICS committees, including the 2001 APICS Conference Committee.

The recipient of the Student Voluntary Service Award, Neal Schau, CPIM, is a recent graduate of Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames, where he served as vice president and president of the ISU APICS Student Chapter. During his presidency, membership in the chapter grew 50 percent, and he spearheaded efforts to have APICS certification review courses taught on the campus for student participation. While in school full time, Schau worked part-time as a supply chain analyst at a local manufacturing plant, obtained the CPIM designation, and achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant in the National Guard, all in addition to his student chapter leadership responsibilities.

The recipient of the 2002 Student Chapter Mentor Award, Jack Cook, Ph.D., CFPIM, is being honored for his years as faculty advisor for the SUNY-Geneseo and the Rochester Institute of Technology APICS student chapters, both of which were founded under his direction. Cook's leadership and expertise continue to guide students toward successful careers in resource management, and his commitment to organizational success and devotion to increasing students' education and experiences benefit not only the students, but also the local APICS chapters and the society.
