FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

APICS' New ERP Course Emphasizes
Businesswide Integration and Placement
of ERP Systems Within the Supply Chain

Alexandria, VA (October 28, 2002) The Introduction to Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) course recently published by APICS—The Educational Society for Resource Management presents information essential for a successful ERP implementation, providing a foundation for understanding the integration of businesswide functions and the placement of ERP systems in the supply chain.

"The course is not a technical how-to, but rather an educational course on the concepts of what ERP is, how it works, and the benefits achieved through proper implementation and functioning," said course co-developer, Robert Vokurka, Ph.D., CFPIM, CIRM. "The course was designed for organizations beginning the ERP justification process, starting their implementations, or those that have not yet achieved the anticipated benefits," said Vokurka.

The course contains definitions, concepts, and guidelines for ERP implementation, and details the organizational requirements necessary to achieve a business environment receptive to change. In addition, what is needed to make the required organizational changes, the process and policy revisions, and the required project steps are discussed.

"The instructor-led course will help class participants understand the issues involved in improving an enterprise's performance by using an ERP system to improve customer service and communication internally and along the supply chain," said Vokurka.

Course co-developer, Mike Okrent, CPIM, CIRM, said, "ERP is a process that requires implementers to understand the business and how to use this knowledge to reduce cost and increase the velocity of money."
