FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Experienced Practitioner, Academician
Receives Romey Everdell Award at
APICS International Conference
Nashville, TN (October 28, 2002) The recipient of the Romey Everdell Award that recognizes the most outstanding contribution to the highly respected Production and Inventory Management Journal (P&IMJ) published by APICS—The Educational Society for Resource Management was honored here today at the 2002 APICS International Conference and Exposition.
Author James A. Robinson, CFPIM, CIRM, C.P.M., of Guerneville, California, was recognized for his article "Inventory Profile Analysis: An Aggregation Technique for Improving Customer Service While Reducing Inventory," which appeared in the second quarter 2001 issue of the peer-reviewed journal. Robinson, an industry practitioner in operations management for more than 30 years, is currently a director of supply chain management for a major importer, a professor at Sonoma State University, and a doctoral candidate of business administration at Golden Gate University.
In his paper, Robinson explores the questions, "How much inventory is needed?" and "Which inventory ratio should be used?" According to Robinson, "Inventory profile analysis (IPA) is the answer to the second question, and it will provide the answer to the first." IPA is a "technique to analyze aggregate finished goods inventory and predict customer service level as measured by item fill rate or calculate inventory requirements in a make-to-stock environment." Robinson says that he originally developed the technique for a manufacturer, but "IPA can be used by any organization that must manage inventory stocked in multiple locations."
Robinson holds a bachelor of science degree in business and industrial management from San Jose State University and a master of business administration degree from Sonoma State University. He is past president of the APICS Redwood Empire Chapter.
