FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

APICS Advances Workplace Solutions at
SIG Technical Conference

Alexandria, VA (March 1, 2002)—Workplace solutions such as the theory of constraints (TOC), supply chain management, lean manufacturing, ERP, and six sigma will be addressed at the APICS SIG Technical Conference, Exhibits, and Workshops April 14-18 in St. Louis, Missouri.

For the first time, four specific industry/special interest groups (SIGs) of APICS—The Educational Society for Resource Management have come together to provide practical, hands-on information at the “Tools for Business Survival: Transforming Challenges into Opportunities” event. Sponsoring SIG groups are Constraints Management; Engineered Products, Aerospace, and Defense; Lean; and Textile and Apparel.

“More than 25 industry experts, outstanding keynote speakers, and pre- and postconference workshops will provide cutting-edge techniques that will improve a company’s bottom line,” said Nicholas M. Testa, CFPIM, CIRM, Jonah, APICS vice president education development-SIGs.

“With Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan’s recent statement that the economy is recovering from the recession combined with the rise in durable goods orders, the ideas and solutions presented at this conference are particularly critical for companies as they capitalize on the improving economy,” Testa said.

Two thought-provoking keynote speakers are featured. Dan L. Shunk, Ph.D., Avnet Chair of Supply Network Integration, College of Engineering, Arizona State University, will tie lean concepts with the enterprise planning functions as companies outsource and go global. Warren Featherbone’s President and CEO, Charles E. “Gus” Whalen Jr. will address solutions such as EDI and quick response, and supply chain partnership development.

Well-known theory of constraints experts will present six four-hour preconference workshops on such topics as performance measures, production management thinking processes, critical chain project management, and supply chain management. Implementing multiproject management methods and strategy alignment using constraints management will be postconference workshop topics.

Representatives from companies that develop the latest tools related to constraints management, lean, and ERP will be on the exhibit floor.
